Hello, this is Risa, a staff member!
As the title says, Tanaka is currently challenging himself to break a rule in the art world.
As you can see from the title, Tanaka is currently challenging himself to break a rule in the art world, and that is to create a masterpiece in a size smaller than size 10. The reason why this is a challenge is that in the art world, masterpieces are basically large works, size 20 or larger.
The only famous masterpiece that I can think of that is smaller than size 10 is Vermeer. (This is just a staff research, so please let me know if there are any.)
The reason why large works tend to become masterpieces is that a large canvas can hold a lot of information. Also, I think it is simply because it is large and therefore more powerful. With a small work, the amount of information that can be written on the canvas will inevitably decrease because the canvas is small. Therefore, it is thought that larger paintings are more likely to become masterpieces.
However, paintings larger than size 20 are large and take up a lot of space, creating the problem of not having enough room to put them in a house.
Therefore, Mr. Tanaka is now trying to create a painting that is packed with information and powerful enough to leave a lasting impression on the viewer, even if it is a small painting.
The painting of the woman is a size called “SM” (about size 2), but it is quite powerful. Is it the power of the eyes? When Mr. Tanaka contacted me to tell me that he had painted this picture, I had no idea it was such a small size. I felt it was very powerful. It is hard to convey in the picture, but there are many highlights in this work, such as the eye color and hair color. Of course, the cat-rabbit is perfectly present this time, too!
This work, which was painted on the theme of Mount Asama, is size No. 3. This is my favorite work. I think it is difficult to create a landscape painting with such a small size (No. 3), but as one would expect from Mr. Tanaka, he easily overcame the hurdle! He easily overcame the hurdle. I love the thickness of the paint on the clouds as well as the main subject, Mt. I think this work matches any room. The easy-to-decorate size is another great point.
Although the two works introduced here are quite small, they are works that showcase Takuma Tanaka's strength. Please feel free to contact us if you are interested in Takuma Tanaka's new challenge!
